We can't get enough MarPAMM & the last wintering birds.

Welcome back to our Ocean Ornithology Blog, where we will continue further with the MarPAMM project and show our progress on the North West coast of Ireland, along with other general birding and wildlife adventures! This blog will be getting updated regularly along with our MarPAMM page on the BirdWatch Ireland website BWI MarPAMM Page where you'll find more information on the project, which aims to bring much more clarity on Irelands seabirds and their use of the marine protected area shared between ROI, NI, and Scotland, allowing us to manage this area much more effectively.

We've both started back on the job in County Donegal and have already been out counting Divers and Common Scoter in Donegal Bay, finding [Insert numbers here] from the Murvagh and Terhillion/Mountcharles area. These birds are the last wintering individuals before they all move off to breed elsewhere.

Follow these links for more information on these two species, and where you can find them around Ireland!

Great Northern Diver (John Murphy)                          Common Scoter (Billy Clarke)

We will soon be starting surveying breeding seabirds, including work on Puffins on Tory Island, for which there will be plenty to tell in the next blog post!

Bye for now,

Paul B
