Storm Petrel surveys?! Habi-bout-tat!

After last years Storm Petrel survey work on a selection of Donegal islands, we will be continuing these surveys this year! This began with us taking a beautiful trip out to Roaninish and Inishduff islands well before Petrel nesting time to gather information on the island's habitats, which will aid us later on when surveying these little beauties!

Some potential Storm Petrel habitat on Roaninish Island.

Storm Petrels require particular habitat to eke out a living as our smallest seabird at an average weight of just 25 grams! This specific habitat is what we were looking for, so when we return later in the year we can play their unmistakable call around the islands, listening out for their reply from deep in their burrows (press play below to hear the beautiful Storm Petrel call).

When we return to the islands to perform the surveys you can be sure we'll be back here with images and talk of what we discovered!
